Planet Median

Most planets are locked in orbit around their sun. Planets that orbit a certain distance from their sun, in the so called ‘Goldilocks zone’ can sustain life. Like Earth.

Median is a planet that has a thriving civilization but does neither of these. Median exists in a gravitational well at the center of 6 active wormholes. Each of these wormholes connect to a different solar system. Each one at a different distance to the sun in each solar system. Each sun in each solar system applies a gravitational pull and sends light and radiation through each wormhole.  This gravitational nexus pulled debris from the surrounding space to form the planet. Poles formed as a result of the stronger gravity of two opposing wormholes. Due to the gravitational differences of the remaining four wormholes, the planet developed a rotation. This rotation is strong enough to produce approximately .95g gravity.

Median has technologically developed much faster than the other civilizations. This is due to the fact that radio waves also come through each of the wormholes and civilizations developed earlier than Median on the other side of various wormholes. These radio waves allow the Medians access to any broadcast of information from all six solar systems. The Medians managed to learn the primary languages of each civilization and began to develop libraries of the data gathered. From this data they developed a science to merge this information and extrapolate from it.

Issues that plagued all of the other civilizations like slavery, prejudice and war have been avoided by the Medians as they have seen these things play out at different developmental levels from the data and chose to not engage in such activity. Technologically advancing by extrapolating ideas from the collected data allowed the Medians to leap far ahead of even the most advanced of the civilizations. This has led to several innovations allowing them to break free from the gravity well and explore their region of space. Probes sent out between the wormholes returned no other star systems or planets or life. They then decided to start sending probes through the wormholes to gather first hand knowledge from each system instead of relying solely on the captured radio waves. The Medians were unknown to each of the civilizations until the probes were detected. Some were summarily destroyed upon detection. Some were captured, dissected, tracked and probes sent in return. Some went unnoticed for decades before return probes came through.

Today something new occurred. Instead of a probe coming through your ship came from Earth-side.(use the wormhole designation)  Humans, as you call yourselves, sent live people. This is a very large risk and was very unexpected. No other civilization has taken that risk. You are one of only three survivors. The other two were dead when we rescued your craft. The ship you arrived in has no chance of returning to Earth-side. It is technologically ill-equipped to do so. This leaves us one conclusion. You were sent on a one way trip. To go to a place in which you cannot be sure you could survive. Unsure if there was a hospitable planet with breathable air, drinkable water and edible food seems ludicrous to us. This is why you have been separated from your crew and are being detained in this remote facility.

Dale looked at the clearly female, brunette diplomat unable to respond. This diplomat was speaking perfect English, albeit with an odd accent. He was not restrained in any way. They did not fear him. This was good. He tested his mobility and sat up in the bed. He gathered his thoughts then responded.

“My name is Dale Abernathy. I am a volunteer from Earth on a mission of peace and discovery. We knew this what a one way ticket but felt the need to come anyway. Which of my crew are alive?”

“The other two have different skin color than yours and each other and different hair types. All of our knowledge about Earth-side is audible so we cannot read your writing, yet.”

“That’s okay. I know who you are talking about. Janette Kinkade and Isamu Sato. Kinkade is the female, like yourself I assume and Sato is darker than me.” Dale noted that the diplomat jotted this down. “And you would be?”

“I am Prefect Manau, at least audibly that is how it sounds. Beside you on the table is a device that will allow you to hear a rough translation of our spoken tongue. We do not wish you to think we are keeping anything from you. We wish this to be an amiable transition.”
